Danny Ainge, the Celtics’ General Manager, continues to wheel and deal. The Celtics traded the #1 pick in the NBA draft for the #3 pick in 2017 draft and the Lakers 2018 draft pick. The Celtics now have 8 first round picks in the next 3 drafts. The Celtics will be able to build for the future while remaining competitive in LeBron James’ eastern conference. What a good time to be a Celtics fan. The 76ers, on the other hand, have been in a long, tough “process” for years now and finally it feels like they are starting to see the fruits of their labor. For the second straight season they will have the #1 overall pick. At this point it seems all but certain they will pick Markelle Fultz, the freshman from Washington University. The combination of Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz, and Joel Embiid could propel the 76ers to the playoffs in the 2018 season. Beyond next season, the 76ers look to have all the parts to compete in the eastern conference for years to come. Its about time! So who was the winner of this trade? Definitely the Celtics. LeBron James has now made the Finals 7 straight times. He will probably make it 8 next season. The Celtics have put themselves in the perfect position. If for some reason LeBron James falters, the Celtics are the team most likely to take advantage and make the finals. If LeBron James continues his domination over the eastern conference, the Celtics can’t be to upset. They know LeBron James can’t dominate the east forever and when that era ends the Celtics will be perfectly positioned to dominate the east for many years to come.
